On 20-22 September the Klaipeda Science and Technology Park hosted a Port Technology Hackathon. The Portathon Baltic 2019 became an event where teams from business organizations, academic institutions, innovation developers and startups from Lithuania and abroad were applying their knowledge and creativity to find innovative and nonstandard ideas benefiting the port of Klaipeda.
18 teams and 12 mentors from different organizations engaged in the functioning of the Klaipeda Port such as state seaport directorate, international companies “Emerson” and “Schneider Electric” as well as “Klaipėda oil”, Klaipeda University, Lithuanian innovation center, and other organizations were working together in four main directions:
- digitalization in logistics
- automated port equipment
- digital port terminals
- smart transport ecosystems.
The prize fund – 4000 Euro were shared between three teams from Klaipeda alma mater and one team from Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden. They offered innovative solutions for the document processing system, power supply, operational planning of LNG terminals and information management system for cargo handling at port terminals.
The solutions offered during the hackathon aimed to solve the specific problems of Klaipeda port, but the general ideas of these solutions could be applicable for other ports as well.
